After years of working in large law firms, I experienced time and again situations where certain attorneys in my firm (to whom we were strongly encouraged to direct work) were not the exact individuals best suited to handle a specific client matter. Billing and incentive structures of large firms simply are not always consistent with the needs of emerging companies and/or their founders.
I founded Capital Law Group to solve that problem for my clients. Our large network of lawyers with varying specialties, most with large firm pedigree and training who have started their own firms, allows us to recommend and associate with the right attorneys for each client, issue-by-issue.
I typically act as outside general counsel to firms. While we do much of the work ourselves, we also manage outsourcing to, and oversight of, other attorneys who can provide high quality, but cost-effective, services. I believe this produces better results for our clients and their businesses.
We counsel entrepreneurs, investors, and boards of technology-based companies on a wide range of business matters, including company formation, employee incentives, governance, intellectual property creation and harvesting, licensing, technology transfer, strategic alliances, investments and exits.
We focus on early stage companies in human and animal health and nutrition, life sciences, clean tech, software and Internet based businesses, and university spinouts.
